Growth and sustainable, wellness require a foundation of needs
Root down to rise up.
Feels obvious. But are you actually?
Primary foods often get dumped to the bottom of the to-do list in place of the more obvious self-care things like sleep and food.
But friends - they are the missing piece of your wellness ecosystem.
Not all of them all at once all the time - you have seasons don’t forget. But some of them or one of them little bits of time consistently. Small things often.
Things that feel intuitive, interesting, soothing, natural.
Trust your innate humanness as a part of the natural world. The things we need are NOT complicated. Start anywhere, or with the one you feel is most undernourished. Pro tip: the one you’re avoiding is the one you need the most.
The primary foods are:
Rest: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual pausing of “work”.
Contribution: contributing your unique ideas and gifts to your community and through your work in the world
Community: friends, family, loved ones, neighbours, extended acquaintances that you are in physical proximity with and gather with.
Creativity: Time spent bringing ideas to fruition; hobbies, art, writing, or otherwise engaging with your imagination
Joy: Activities that are simply in the pursuit of having fun.
Self-expression: Time spent expressing thoughts, feelings, or ideas
Meaning: Activities or pursuits of importance and value to you and your life
Flow: Opportunity in your schedule for flexibility and unassigned time
A few suggestions about where to start:
What is your relationship with each of these primary foods? (Tells you a lot about what you learned about priorities and success)
What are you craving this season of your life?
One thing you can do today towards that? What resistance comes up? Can you allow yourself to do the thing anyway?
